Workshops on “R” for archaeologists
Elisabetta Canteri, Postdoc at the Section for Molecular Ecology and Evolution at the Globe Institute, will run two “R” workshops on 19 and 26 March.
Early-career researchers are especially encouraged to sign up.
Each workshop will be two hours long and include a lecture and a practical format. Please bring your own computers. Workshop materials will be provided, including links to the R packages covered in the sessions. Participants are encouraged to bring their own data, but Elisabetta will provide example data frames for those who do not have any available.
The first workshop, “R basics for archaeologists” will introduce the fundamentals of working in R. It will cover basic R nomenclature, including objects and functions, importing, working with and processing data in data frames, and an introduction to creating figures using ggplot2.
The second workshop, “Spatial data analysis in R”, will focus on handling spatial data in R. Topics will include coordinate reference systems, working with points and polygons, and plotting spatial data on maps. The workshop will also demonstrate how to download and use map data from the Natural Earth database.
Please register for the workshops here: https://archaeology.ku.dk/calendar/registration-r/ (one or both), and make sure to indicate if there’s anything in particular you are keen to learn or any specific topics you would like covered.
