Archaeology and place-making – a sustainable archaeology by and for its community (Isle of Arran, Scotland)
Join us for a guest lecture Dr Lesley McFadyen, Birkbeck, University of London

Dr McFadyen is Reader in Archaeology at the School of Historical Studies.
This talk is about the importance of place-making in an island context, and who and what is made to matter. It argues for shifts in practices and theories of archaeology, towards a more sustainable archaeology that uses cross-method survey as a basis for community co-designed projects.
Doing archaeology sustainably is doing it critically: by questioning whose inheritances become our objects of study, how we investigate them, who benefits from that knowledge production and what responsibilities this produces.
